The solo project of The Knife’s Karin Dreijer, Fever Ray swaggers, broods, intrigues and dazzles. Sharing The Knife’s icy electronic atmosphere, but with a more organic-sounding approach, Fever Ray is an artist like no other, a multifaceted character brought to life through remarkable visuals and costumes (from a blood-soaked peroxide blonde to a skull-capped BDSM dinner guest) which only serve to accentuate their hauntingly beautiful soundscapes. Fever Ray’s self titled album was released in 2009 to wide acclaim with The Guardian choosing it as one of their albums of the year. Stand out track “If I Had a Heart” features in the opening credits sequence of the television series Vikings.
Following a 2010 tour of the album that included a much lauded stop off at the Electric Picnic, Fever Ray went underground for almost a decade, with Dreijer returning to the Knife for 2013’s Shaking the Habitual and the following year’s Shaken-Up Versions. The end of 2017 saw the release of the highly anticipated Fever Ray single “To the Moon and Back” shortly before the surprise release of the full-length Plunge online. Since then Dreijer has released a series of eye-popping, alluring music videos to accompany Plunge which was recorded in collaboration with the producers Paula Temple, Deena Abdelwahed, NÍDIA, Tami T, Peder Mannerfelt and Johannes Berglund. Fever Ray’s 2018 tour will be their first live shows since 2010 and we’re thrilled to have their visionary curatorial eye and spellbinding performances joining us for Friday night at the Body&Soul stage.
