Karen O’Donohoe & Emma Walsh – Food waste: where do we stand?

COO of Food Cloud, Emma Walsh and GIY Head of Development & co-presenter of the hit TV show GROW COOK EAT on RTÉ, Karen O’Donohoe, tackle the issue of food waste in Ireland, in conversation with chair of Slow Food Dublin, Dee Laffan.

Karen is GIY’s Head of Development with a passion for people, communities and how GIYing helps them to reach their potential and grow in more ways than one. A social entrepreneur, Karen started The Cottage Market, a community-led movement that puts homegrown and homemade food back in the heart of communities that currently has 24 Cottage Markets running across the island of Ireland. A novice grower, Karen grows potatoes, garlic, strawberries and tomatoes successful, but has yet to master carrots and whilst clubbing days are behind her she still likes to live life on the veg…. #stilldigsthebeets

Emma Walsh studied civil engineering in UCC and started her career on construction sites. She subsequently went on to achieve an MBA from the Smurfit Business School. Emma has always demonstrated a keen interest in social policy and in particular food waste. She is now COO of FoodCloud, a not-for-profit that connects businesses with surplus food to charities using technology. She has a loves solving interesting problems and is passionate about resolving food waste. She enjoys working with small businesses that have big ambitions for scaling.
