Fearless, savagely provocative and wholly unique – Mykki Blanco is an artist operating on a visionary plain all her own. The multi-faceted star began life as a child actor before founding an art collective in her teens and running away from home. Having won scholarships to two prestigious art colleges Mykki went on to quit both, saying: “the art world is just one big scam for rich people.”
Be it in the guise of a poet, performance artist or rapper – Blanco’s razor-sharp output has continued to amass her a loyal band of online devotees. However, it was Her self-titled 2016 LP that pushed her work further into the public eye with frankness of her lyricism referencing drag aesthetics, gender roles, addiction and being HIV positive. By turns moody, sassy, outrageous or tender, Mykki has come of age as a force to be reckoned with. We expect to be transfixed by her live show at Ballinlough.
