“Not merely one of our favourite Irish songsmiths at the minute, but quite clearly one of the very best – the most astute and consistently captivating – singer-songwriters around. This is beautiful, vital stuff.” (The Thin Air)
David Boland has been making music under the moniker New Pope since 2015 when he released his critically acclaimed debut album Youth which made The Thin Air, Nialler9 and Irish Times’ best albums lists. Released on new year’s eve 2016, his second album Love was listed as The Irish Times album of the week and a third album, called Home, is set for release this autumn.
Musically indebted to Velvet Underground, Neil Young, Bob Dylan and David Kitt, New Pope “wears the varying shapes of his heart on his sleeve – humourous, romantic, nostalgic, observer of life, dreamer. His song-crafting skills are exceptionally on point – thought and emotion provoking poetic essays on the world with which the Galway native surrounds himself.” (DervSwerve, Discover Ireland #2)
