Materials

Festivals produce a lot of materials, but at Body & Soul, we strive to prevent waste and move towards a circular economy. Instead of the traditional linear “take-make-dispose” model, the circular economy aims to keep materials and products in use for as long as possible. In fact, we don’t see waste at all, only valuable materials. We have implemented practical ways to put the circular economy into action.
For instance, we have banned single-use plastics (SUPs) from the festival site, and in 2022 we even made the switch to reusable cups, resulting in less waste and a cleaner festival environment. Recycling stations are provided in campsites for attendees to dispose of their bagged waste responsibly, and the Leave no Trace policy has become integral to our community culture, with all campsites being LNT for 2023. Moreover, we prioritise the reuse of materials for decor and build, operating a Material-Bank Inventory to store valuable materials from year to year.
As festival organisers, we have learned from our experiences and are continuously devising ways to improve our efforts to reduce our impacts. At Body & Soul, we believe that small steps can lead to significant results. By collectively taking action, we are demonstrating the potential for a better circular future.
