Rudi-Lee McCarthy is a young emerging artist & chef based in County Meath and Dublin, Ireland. His practice merges traditional art practice with unconventional materials. He is taking a pragmatic approach to display facts while conceptualising them visually, undermining how we define art.
After graduating from the National College of Art and Design, Rudi-lee’s final-year project, “Porto Aperta,” became a prime example of his creativity. The project subverted the restaurant concept and took its physical form in the non-white cubed spaces of the gallery. The artwork displayed hidden history and cultural context; this coincides a daily menu which would produce ephemeral flavours that allow the participant to transcend into a new sensory and emotional state of learning the core message of the work. As an artist, event coordinator, chef and creative thinker his focus always finds sight on possible solutions in his everyday practice to the climate crisis.
