Gwenno Saunders is a Welsh musician, known by the stage name Gwenno. Formerly a member of The Pipettes, she has released three critically acclaimed albums as a solo artist including her most recent, Tresor, which was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize in 2022.
Gwenno specialises in singing in the Cornish language. Her second album Le Kov is sung completely in Cornish and was named one of the best albums of 2018 by The Guardian, Uncut and Mojo. Her performance of ‘Tir ha Mor’ from the album on Later with Jools Holland was a triumph, and it prompted wider conversations on the state of the Cornish language with Michael Portillo, Jon Snow, and Nina Nannar. Tresor has garnered plaudits from fans and critics alike with the Sunday Times saying ‘A mesmerising exploration of femininity, motherhood, desire and agency… Travelling through Gwenno’s soundscapes is a lovely thing.”
